National Service Scheme (NSS)

National Service Scheme has provided a platform for the youth to learn by doing community service. It has given them a vision to help the downtrodden and the needy. It creates the spirit of equality and fraternity as well as a sense of civic responsibility.NSS philosophy and activities significantly contributed to the process of national integration in india.NSS has enriched the academic fabric of the nation through inculcation of leadership qualities and value orientation among the student community.

The NSS Cell, Mahatma Gandhi University has made its mark of distinction in the annals of Mahatma Gandhi Univeristy. Right from its inception it has been striving hard and rendering services to the society. There has been a tremendous response from the volunteers and programme officers from the beginning.

Our NSS volunteers had done a commendable service during the year 2012 - 13. Variety of regular activities such as HIV / AIDS awareness programmes, Blood donation camps, Health camps, Dental camps, Eye camps, tree plantation programme, Water harvesting pits, repairs to roads, pulse polio immunization and clean & green programmes in the college premises, legal awareness, Environmental protection rallies, and other programmes have been undertaken by the volunteers under the leadership of Programme Officers. All the important days/celebrations organized befittingly by the NSS units.

This year (26th January, 2016) two NSS volunteers of our university participated in the prestigious Republic Day Parade at New Delhi. Mahatma Gandhi University NSS Cell bagged state best NSS volunteers and best Programme Officer during the year 2013-14.Dr.Ravi Akula received the prestigious Indira Gandhi NSS award from the Hon’ble President of India. He has also received the State award as best programme Coordinator.

In addition to this, a good number of NSS volunteers from our university have participated in various national level programmes such as National Integration Camps, National Adventure Training Camps, Pre- RD training camps, RGNIYD training programmes. I am happy to note that the NSS cell, MGU has successfully achieved the target of special camps for the fourth consecutive year. Almost 90% of the NSS Programme Officers of MGU are trained Programme Officers.

It is a appropriate time to mention here the NSS programs undertaken right from its inception, striving hard and rendering services by the dedicated former programme Coordinator Dr. Ravi Akula under able guidance of R.Gokula krishnan, Head-NSS Regional Centre, Government of India, Dr. M.Satyanarayana Reddy, NSS State Officer, Government of Telangana, Vice Chancellors and Registrars of Mahatma Gandhi University, Nalgonda.

I take this opportunity to thank our Hon'ble Vice-Chancellor & Chairman of NSS, Sri.T.Vijay Kumar, I.A.S for their encouragement and guidance. I am very thankful to Prof. U.Umesh Kumar, Registrar, M.G.U for their co operation and constant support. I sincerely thank Sri. R.Gokula Krishna, Regional Director, NSS Regional Directorate, Hyderabad for their guidance and is very kind enough in extending opportunities to our volunteers for participating variety of National level events. My thanks are due to Dr. M. Satyanarayana Reddy, SNO, NSS State Cell for their continuous support. I am very much thankful to the Principals, Programme Officers for initiating activities under NSS and the same tempo should be maintained in the future also.
