Dr. Narasimha Reddy Katta grew-up in Osmania University (Hyderabad) campus where he received his education (B.Sc Special, MSc, PhD degrees in Physics). He received training in Script writing and Film Direction from Film and Television Institute of India, Pune and on Microprocessors and digital Electronics from Indian Institute of Science (IISC) Bangalore. He began his academic career as an Assistant Professor at the Department of Physics; Osmania University in 1980 and rose to a level of Professor in 1998. Being the faculty member, he was actively engaged in Teaching, Research, Institutional building and academic administration He was holding the position of Head Department of Physics and Chairman, Board of Studies in Hearing Languages & Speech, Coordinator of UGC-SAP and Coordinator of DST-FIST Programs at Osmania University, before he was chosen by the Govt. of Andhra Pradesh to head Mahatma Gandhi University at Nalgonda as Vice Chancellor. All through his 31 years of service in the Osmania University Dr. Reddy worked closely with students, teachers, colleagues and university authorities to promote academic excellence and educational partnerships.
An active teacher and researcher in the field of Solid State Physics and Materials Science, Prof. Narasimha Reddy has held post-doctoral and visiting research Professor positions in International Center for Theoretical Physics, Trieste (Italy), University of Rome II “Tor Vergata” (Italy), Southern University at Baton Rouge, Louisiana (USA), and University of Canterbury (New Zealand). He has published more than 100 peer reviewed international journals in different areas of Solid State Physics and Materials Science. Over 10 doctoral researchers have been guided by him; all of them are now occupying leading positions in academia and R&D in India. His research publications have received numerous citations. Widely traveled all over the world, Dr. Reddy has presented papers, given invited and plenary lectures, chaired sessions in a number of National and International conferences ( India, USA, Thailand, Singapore, Malaysia, Australia, New Zealand, Germany, China). He has hosted several National and International conferences and seminars.
He is the Life Member of many professional bodies like New York Academy of Sciences, Andhra Pradesh Academy of Sciences, Foundation member and Secretary of Society for advancement of Solid state Sciences, Materials research Society of America, Life Member and Secretary of Indian Society for Radiation Physics (Hyderabad chapter), International Society for Solid State Ionics, Indian Association of Physics Teachers, Asian Society of Solid State Ionics and Indian Crystallographer’s Association.
Recognizing Dr. Reddy’s contribution to Science and Technology, he was elected as the “Fellow of the World Innovation Foundation (FWIF)” in the year 2004 and also elected Fellow of A.P. Academy of Sciences for the year 2004. Presently Dr. Reddy is the Vice president of Andhra Pradesh Academy of Sciences.
Prof. Reddy was the Associate Editor of Journal of Pure and applied Physics (JPAP) and Review editor of Journal of Materials Chemistry and Physics. He is closely associated with Solid State Ionics Laboratory, Southern University, Baton Rouge, Louisiana, USA and Department of Electrical Engineering and Physics, Wilkes University, Pen State, United States of America. He has organized more than Five International Conferences and Ten National conferences.
In 2011, Prof. Reddy has assumed the Charge as Vice-Chancellor of Mahatma Gandhi University, Nalgonda (A.P.). From July 2011 to June 2012, he was In charge Vice Chancellor of Palamuru University, Mahabubnagar in Andhra Pradesh. As the Vice Chancellor of these Universities, he introduced sweeping reforms in University governance, Financial Management and Quality Management. On academic front he introduced several new and innovative programs like M.Sc Medical Geology, Diploma program in Information and Network Security, M.Sc Nonconventional Energy Physics etc.
He introduced numerous student and staff welfare programs, Wi-Fi connectivity throughout the campus, use of virtual classroom for quality teaching etc. He has initiated Ph.D programmes in the University. Based on his significant contribution to the institutional development UGC has the 12B status to the University. He has made a visible contribution in the development of Infrastructural facilities in huge 240 acres University Campus. He blends his passion and commitment to the cause of building great centers of learning with a practical approach.
